ESQUILOS LEJANOS is the name of an exhibition by SAL which features a number of sheep bells and other objects, images and texts related with them and-or with their context. All of them have been either created or modified for this show by the artists represented by this collective.

The subversive character of this initiative is reflected in its attempts to create new audiences for Contemporary Art among the sheep while questioning the nature and validity of conventional exhibition spaces. Esquilos Lejanos attempts also a sophisticated geographical game: The sheep bells were initially carried by the animals in the dry and scarcely populated landscapes of Aragon, Spain. But these same objects will then be transformed by Spanish artists living in the rainy and heavily populated city of London.

The exhibition will take place in two stages: The art-object-sheep bells will first be returned to the sheep which will carry them for a few days in November/December 2006. Then they (or what remains of them) will be recovered and exhibited in the Centro de Historia de Zaragoza alongside documentation of the whole process. Esquilos Lejanos was initiated by Carlos Cortés and has been developed in collaboration with SAL. It´ll be part of TABLAS, a series of exhibitions organized by E-MIGRE and sponsored by the Zaragoza Council.
