maria alvarez-echenique

Maria Alvarez Echenique has been born in Madrid, where she lived and studied Special Education and Speech Therapist (PGCE), until she came to live in London in 1997. Having worked as a Special Needs teacher for some years, Maria took a Ceramic degree at Camberwell University of the Arts, London. Since then she has worked and exhibit primarily in British galleries. Most of her recent work has inspirations and connections to anthropology and nature. She also teaches Art and works in the Public Arts arena.

“My work is a combination of different ceramic techniques, a constant formulation through the possibilities of clay. The combinations of figurative and functional objects are closely related to nature; its colours, shapes, dynamism, movement and our relation to it, are a constant dialogue in my work. Alongside my own art projects I am working in the public arts arena, running workshops, painting murals for public spaces and making installations. My involvement in different public art projects, gave me a clear view of the benefits of collaborative artistic creation”
