S-A-L.CO.UK is the title of our next exhibition that will take place at Fundación Vela Zanetti de León (Spain) from 9th to 30th November 2011 by kind invitation of the municipality of León.
This event is our 3rd exhibition in Spain and the artists will be showing some pieces of work specifically inspired by León.

Ernesto Sarezale is the pen name of a Basque cognitive scientist, writer and performance poet based in London. His creative work includes: concrete poetry, body and performance art, multimedia (video, sound, word,…), and hypertext/web-based art and literature. Some of his poems and hypermedia pieces have been published in a variety of outlets (literary journals, poetry e-zines, arts websites and compilation cds). In 2002, he founded and co-hosted Homophone, a successful series of poetry readings that took place at the Poetry Cafe in London. He joined, in 2004, the London Biennale, with which he has collaborated in various events.

“Time is boring and unattractive” – Cristina wants to change this notion by making looking at time playful, enjoyable and fun. She has rejuvenated timepieces by creating clocks that invite you to look, play and interact. Her clocks are a step beyond being simply functional objects moving away from traditional concepts, which is how time should be perceived in the twenty first century. She uses a variety of elements such as light, movement and physical involvement. Her innovative fun clocks look at different ways of telling the time.

Cristina was born in San Sebastian. After graduating from Camberwell College of Art she has won various awards including the prestigious “Category” and “Peoples Poll Winner” at the “Peugeot Design Awards”. Her work can be seen and bought from her Design Shop in London’s OXO Tower.

Born in Barcelona, of Catalan parents, Trinidad Ball has lived in Spain, Latin America and England, where she currently resides. She has trained at Central St Martin’s, Putney School of Art and South Thames College.

“I started painting in 1997 and in 2003 I resigned my post as Probation Officer to dedicate myself full-time to art. People and natural objects inspire me and I am excited by bright, strong colours and how they interact. I particularly enjoy the drama created by darkness and light and strong shadows. I am inspired by traditional artists such as Velazquez, Goya, Caravaggio and Rembrandt and of the more contemporary artists I am fascinated by Hopper’s work. Van Gogh moves me.

I describe myself as a Contemporary Realist artist. I use minimalist backgrounds to emphasise the power of the subject, be it people or natural objects. Through lengthy observation I get to know their qualities in intimate detail and I try to convey these through my paintings, capturing their character and uniqueness. Through the application of many thin layers of strong pigment oil paint I create translucent and luminous images. My aim therefore is to create a ‘more real than life’ effect and to give the viewer the illusion that they can touch and feel, and in the case of natural objects, even smell my paintings.”

Natalia Rivero was born in Barcelona in 1975 and has a BA Honours degree in Fine Art from Valencia University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Painting from the Royal Academy of Arts, London. During her studies she obtained an Erasmus scholarship for Lisbon University, and a Promoe grant for Byam Shaw School of Art, London, where she lives since 1997. At the RA Summer Show 2001 she won the Diana King Prize. Currently, she exhibits her art widely and works as an art teacher at a Waldorf School in London.

Natalia’s Art work is a response to the beauty and harmony of the things she has seen on her travels, and painting has the power to make her see things in a new light, bringing back memories of aesthetic experiences in places she has lived and visited.

By using Nature scenes, her intention is to communicate human feelings of solitude and isolation: An empty boat drifting, camels lost in a sand storm, sheep staring at the viewer interrogatively… and all surrounded by an unbearable stillness, as if waiting for a storm to arrive.

I was born in Zamora (Spain) in 1969, grew up in a small town called Toro and later lived in Oviedo. In 1987, after spending a few months in Paris, I moved to England. In February 2010 I emigrated to New Zealand.

I studied at Goldsmith’s College in London and then at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, achieving a Bachelor of Arts in Music. After my graduation I started to work as a graphic designer and art director for a few advertising companies.

Since January 2002 I’ve been working as a full time artist, putting all my energy into painting, illustrating and promoting my own creative company.

My work has been published in several magazines and I have exhibited in the following galleries: Legacy Gallery in Odiham (2007), Sala Naos in Santander (2008), Farnham Maltings (2009), Ochre Print Studios in Guildford (2009), Chalk Hill in Guildford (2009), The Bhavan Centre, Institute for Indian Art & Culture in London (2010).
